Project GE-HEI - Gender Equality In Higher Education Institutions / Gender Equality in Higher Education Institutions
The Directorate-General for Higher Education is leading a project, as a promoter, on Gender Equality in Higher Education Institutions, financed by the EEAGrants 2014-20121 Conciliation and Gender Equality Program, whose operating entity is the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (IGC).
The study will be developed by CIEG, Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies / ISCSP-ULisboa, in partnership with the RIKK, Institute for Gender, Equality and Difference at the University of Iceland and with A3ES, Higher Education Assessment and Accreditation Agency.
Portugal, compared to OECD countries, has a high number of women with advanced degrees (undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees) and also a comparatively high number of researchers in traditionally masculine areas such as science, technology and mathematics.
However, this participation is very low in places of government and management of Higher Education Institutions and in higher positions in the academic career.
Understanding the factors that contribute to explain these and other inequalities in Higher Education, to better identify and combat them, is one of the objectives of this research project, which will seek to analyze these phenomena extensively and intensively, as well as to develop a set of recommendations for the development of Gender Equality criteria in HEIs.
The launch of the Project will take place on July 18, at ISCSP-UL, Alto da Ajuda University Pole, starting at 9:30 am, according to the program.
